*Our classroom is based on community and teamwork. It is essential that students learn to work together and get along. Second graders are expected to treat all members of our school family with kindness and respect. Hitting, name-calling, fighting, making fun of others, etc., will not be tolerated in our classroom.
*In our classroom, I strive to teach the students about responsibility. Students will be responsible for having their homework completed and turned in on time, as well as bringing their Take Home Folder and other necessary materials to school each day. They will also be encouraged to ask questions if they do not understand something.
*Students will be expected to do all of their work to the best of their ability. If an assignment or project is rushed through, the student will have to redo the assignment. Second graders tend to "rush through" assignments to be the first one done. We work hard in our classroom to really take our time and do our best on all activities, and to learn that all of us learn and complete things at different rates.
*Each morning we will have a morning meeting, during which we participate in activities that build community and social skills. We will also focus on the 7 Habits of Happy Kids (more detail below).
Our Class Motto

7 Habits of Happy Kids
1. Be proactive. You're in charge of yourself.
2. Begin with the end in mind. Have a plan.
3. Put first things first. Work first, then play.
4. Think win win. Everyone can be successful.
5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Listen before you speak.
6. Synergize. Together is better.
7. Sharpen the saw. Balance feels best.
Classroom Rewards and Consequences
1. Students can earn Devil Dollars from me and any other teacher or staff member in the school for being a Dependable Devil and following the school rules as stated in the school-wide MTSS program. Devil Dollars will be put into a container in our classroom and collected once per week by our MTSS team. There will be a drawing held each week for prizes or they can be saved and used like money to buy special things at school!
2. In our classroom, I strive to focus on POSITIVE behaviors, rather than negative behaviors. Therefore, consequences for negative student behaviors or choices will be handled on an individual basis and will pertain directly to situations that may occur. Parents will be notified should these types of situations occur in the classroom.
